Dr. Miller's Approach to Non-Surgical Facelifts
As a result of diverse environmental and hereditary factors, people age at different rates and in different ways. Today, it's well understood that facial aging is not caused by any one change — it's the result of many different small changes that develop over time. A liquid facelift or non-surgical facelift is designed to overcome many of these age-related changes to enhance and refreshen your appearance.
A liquid facelift is a term used to denote that volumizing dermal fillers and products like Botox® will be used instead of surgery. BOTOX® Cosmetic and an assortment of dermal fillers are used to reduce the appearance of wrinkles, replace lost volume, and give a subtle "lift" to sagging areas including the jawline and cheeks. For example, products like as JUVÉDERM VOLUMA® XC and Restylane Lyft®, can be administered to hollow or depressed areas such as the cheeks to re-create the fullness of youth. One filler in particular, Sculptra® Aesthetic, can administered to several areas and works by stimulating the growth of collagen for a result that looks and feels incredibly natural. Depending on the area(s) of concern, I will choose the best product available based on the patient's concerns of the longevity of the results, time to final results, downtime, number of treatments needed, and cost.
We use a more sophisticated approach than those typically used by providers at medspas and other non-facial plastic surgery offices. The most recognizable difference is during the analysis of a patient's facial features and aging patterns. This is often overlooked or done incorrectly, which commonly leads to less than satisfactory results or unusual outcomes where patients look like they "had something done."
My goal is true facial rejuvenation with natural results, which requires re-volumizing areas that patients (and many providers) often overlook. These areas include the temples, the sides of the chin, in front of the ear, and along the jawline near the ear lobe. This often requires multiple syringes for true long-lasting, Refreshed results. Single syringe treatments are appropriate for filling a particular line, wrinkle, or augmenting the lips. However, it is good to know that a typical syringe has only 1.0 cc of product, which amounts to only 1/5 of a teaspoon.
For several facial areas, I use blunt-tipped microcannulas (as opposed to needles) to deliver fillers. In most instances they allow for superior precision, increased safety and comfort, and reduced risk for bruising.
Beyond the use of fillers and Botox®, laser resurfacing treatments and non-surgical skin tightening options, such as Ultherapy®, can be added to the liquid facelift for a more enhanced non-surgical facelift result. Although a non-surgical facelift using injectable treatments and other non-surgical options will not create results as significant and long-lasting as those of a traditional surgical facelift, it's a wonderful option for many people who have specific concerns and who are looking to avoid surgery.
Common Questions or Concerns
What are the benefits of a non-surgical facelift over a traditional facelift
A non-surgical facelift doesn't require anesthesia or a significant period of recuperation, making it an appealing choice for many people who don't have the time to devote to resting at home. Although a non-surgical facelift isn't a perfect equivalent to a traditional surgical facelift, it is an excellent option for people with mild to moderate facial aging who wish to correct multiple age-related concerns without surgery.
How long does a non-surgical facelift usually take
The answer to this question varies depending on the number of areas you wish to treat, but most appointments for non-surgical facelifts in Aliso Viejo don't exceed 1 hour.
Are there other options besides BOTOX and fillers for a non-surgical facelift
Yes. Dr. Miller offers the non-invasive procedure Ultherapy® at his Aliso Viejo office. Ultherapy is an FDA-cleared treatment proven to lift and tighten the skin on the neck, jawline, and brow and is also cleared to treat lines and wrinkles on the chest (décolletage). Ultherapy can be combined with BOTOX and fillers (and even laser resurfacing) to provide a more complete non-surgical face-to-décolletage rejuvenation.
How long will my results last
The longevity of your results is dependent on a few different factors, including the types of products used and where in the face they are administered. Neurotoxins such as BOTOX Cosmetic generally last between 3 and 6 months, while fillers including Sculptra Aesthetic and JUVÉDERM VOLUMA XC can last up to 2 years.
