Orange County Microdermabrasion

Our skin takes a beating every day. Sun exposure, pollution, dehydration, aging, and other damaging factors can take a toll on the skin that become apparent over time, as fine lines and wrinkles, crow’s feet, age spots, pigmentation, and roughened texture.

Microdermabrasion is a chemical-free, non-invasive treatment to remove the outermost layer of dead skin cells and reveal the healthier, younger-looking skin beneath. This is a quick procedure known as a “lunch hour” treatment because it can be performed in our offices over the lunch hour with little or no discomfort, and no downtime.

Dr. Timothy R. Miller’s office serves the greater Orange County area performing microdermabrasion and a variety of clinical treatments for the skin in his Aliso Viejo office. Fellowship trained and double-board certified with more than a decade of experience, Dr. Miller focuses his practice on surgical and non-surgical cosmetic procedures of the face and neck.

Diamond Tip Versus Crystals?

A common question about microdermabrasion is which is better, using a Diamond tip or Crystals? We offer both options at Refreshed SkinCare. The adjoining video shows a microdermabrasion treatment at Refreshed SkinCare in Aliso Viejo illustrating the differences between a Diamond tip and Crystals. Both methods are effective for removing the top dead layer of skin thereby removing the primary cause of dull, sallow looking skin--it helps return your skin's natural glow and feel! Additionally, by removing the top dead layer of skin (with no downtime), microdermabrasion provides more effective and even absorption of your skin care care products--they will now actually get to the levels of your skin where they're needed most!

Also, microdermabrasion is an excellent treatment prior to chemical peels, allowing for improved distribution and absorption of the peel--that is, overall better results are achieved when peels are combined with microdermabrasion.

Lastly, we use the professional medical grade DermaGlow II Microdermabrasion machine. Be wary of smaller and cheaper machines that can be stored in a cupboard, on a counter-top, or that can be purchased online. The quality of the machine, and the estheticians performing the treatment, do make a significant difference in the overall results of your microdermabrasion treatment.

How Is Microdermabrasion Performed?

Rejuvenating microdermabrasion is performed on the face and neck. Dr. Miller’s experienced, licensed estheticians will use a custom engineered DermaFlow™ hand-held device to apply tiny pressurized crystals onto your skin. The microdermabrasion device uses gentle abrasion and suction to remove the outermost layer of dead skin cells. This process encourages the skin to produce new underlying skin cells with increased collagen and elastin, which further improves the skin for a more youthful appearance.

The procedure typically lasts approximately 30 to 45 minutes. As it is not painful, treatment is usually performed without the need for anesthetic.

There may be some redness of the skin for a few hours after the procedure. You may apply makeup and return to your normal activities immediately after treatment. In most cases, a series of treatments is needed to produce the optimal results.
