A non-surgical or "liquid" facelift at the Orange County practice of Dr. Timothy R. Miller is a safe, effective, and completely customized way to achieve a beautiful, Refreshed appearance. With a strategic, multi-syringe approach, Dr. Miller uses injectable products on specific areas of the face, with many aesthetically important areas commonly overlooked by patients and other professional injectors. Dr. Miller's Approach to Non-Surgical Facelifts

As a result of diverse environmental and hereditary factors, people age at different rates and in different ways. Today, it's well understood that facial aging is not caused by any one change — it's the result of many different small changes that develop over time. In addition to wrinkles, skin laxity contributes to sagging and drooping, while displaced tissue and fat can cause a sunken or gaunt appearance in the cheeks. Together, these components create an aged appearance that's impossible to correct with wrinkle cream alone.

A liquid facelift uses BOTOX® Cosmetic and dermal fillers to reduce the appearance of wrinkles, replace lost volume, and give a subtle "lift" to sagging areas including the jawline and cheeks. Fillers, such as JUVÉDERM VOLUMA® XC and Restylane®, can also be administered to hollow or depressed areas such as smile lines and under-eye "tear troughs" to re-create the fullness of youth. One filler in particular, Sculptra® Aesthetic, can even stimulate the regrowth of collagen for a result that looks and feels incredibly natural. Depending on the area, I will determine the best product based on the patient's concerns, the longevity of the result, downtime, time to final results, number of treatments, and cost.

I use a more sophisticated approach than those typically used by providers at medspas and other non-facial plastic surgery offices. The most recognizable difference is apparent from the very beginning during the analysis of a patient's facial features and aging patterns. I am very knowledgeable in regards to facial aging proportions and I use my experience coupled with innovative 3-D imaging technology to assess what areas truly need rejuvenation or to be brought back into balance. This is often overlooked or done incorrectly at medspas and other discounted offices, which commonly leads to less than satisfactory results or unusual outcomes where patients look like they "had something done."

My goal is true facial rejuvenation with natural results, which requires re-volumizing areas that patients (and many providers) often overlook. These areas include the temples, the sides of the chin, in front of the ear, and along the jawline near the ear lobe. This often requires multiple syringes for true long-lasting, Refreshed results. Single syringe treatments are appropriate for filling a particular line, wrinkle, or augmenting the lips. However, a typical syringe has only 1.0 cc of product, which amounts to only 1/5 of a teaspoon.

I have also used blunt-tipped microcannulas (as opposed to needles) for filler treatments for more than 10 years. They allow for superior precision, increased safety and comfort, and reduced risk for bruising.

Although a non-surgical facelift using injectable treatments can't create results as significant and long-lasting as those of the traditional surgical facelift, it's a wonderful option for many people who have specific concerns.

Common Questions or Concerns

What are the benefits of a non-surgical facelift over a traditional facelift? A non-surgical facelift doesn't require anesthesia or a significant period of recuperation, making it an appealing choice for many people who don't have the time to devote to resting at home. Although a non-surgical facelift isn't a perfect equivalent to a traditional surgical facelift, it is an excellent option for people with mild to moderate facial aging who wish to correct multiple age-related concerns without surgery.

How long does a non-surgical facelift usually take? The answer to this question varies depending on the number of areas you wish to treat, but most appointments for non-surgical facelifts don't exceed 1 hour.

Are there other options besides BOTOX and fillers for a non-surgical facelift? Yes. Dr. Miller offers the non-invasive procedure Ultherapy® at his Aliso Viejo office. Ultherapy is an FDA-cleared treatment proven to lift and tighten the skin on the neck, jawline, and brow and is also cleared to treat lines and wrinkles on the chest (décolletage). Ultherapy can be combined with BOTOX and fillers (and even laser resurfacing) to provide a more complete non-surgical face-to-décolletage rejuvenation.

How long will my results last? The longevity of your results is dependent on a few different factors, including the types of products used and where in the face they are administered. Neurotoxins such as BOTOX Cosmetic generally last between 3 and 6 months, while fillers including Sculptra Aesthetic and JUVÉDERM VOLUMA XC can last up to 2 years.
